Vilnius: The new Cypriot Ambassador to the Republic of Lithuania, based in Warsaw, Nikos P. Nikolaou, has announced the upcoming visit of President Nikos Christodoulides to Lithuania. This visit is planned in anticipation of Cyprus taking over the Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of 2026.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Ambassador Nikolaou made this announcement during the presentation of his credentials to Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda. The ceremony took place in May, where the ambassador conveyed warm greetings from President Christodoulides and expressed a commitment to strengthening the relationship between Cyprus and Lithuania.
Ambassador Nikolaou highlighted the strong trajectory of relations between Cyprus and Lithuania, emphasizing their simultaneous accession to the European Union in 2004 as a significant moment. This milestone has paved the way for further cooperation and enhancement of their bilateral relations.
Furthermore, the ambassador noted the close cooperation between the two countries within the framework of the EU. He reiterated President Christodoulides’s intention to visit Lithuania soon, aligning with Cyprus’s upcoming role as the Presidency of the EU Council in 2026.
