President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides departs on Saturday for New York, where he will address the Plenary of the 79th United Nations General Assembly and meet with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He will be accompanied by his spouse Philippa Karsera Christodoulides and the members of the Cypriot delegation.
During his presence in New York, the President will, among others, have meetings with other countries’ leaders, while he will host a lunch for the Permanent Representatives of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and have a meeting with a delegation of Chevron energy corporation.
According to a press release issued by the Presidency, on Sunday, September 22, at 6 p.m. (New York time), President Christodoulides will have a meeting with the Presidents of the Cypriot Organizations of America and will then attend an event organized by the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations.
On 23 September at 10 a.m., President Christodoulides will address the UN Future Summi
t. After that he will have a bilateral meeting with the Serbian President Aleksandr Vucic and later on with King Abdullah II of Jordan.
Afterwards, at 3.40 pm, the President will meet with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres at the UN Secretariat headquarters.
In the morning of 24 September, the President will attend a reception hosted by the UN Secretary-General for the Heads of State attending the General Assembly and after that the opening of the 79th UN General Assembly.
Subsequently, the President will hold separate bilateral meetings with the Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia, the Crown Prince of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hammad Al-Sabah, and the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
On 25 September at 11 a.m., the President will address the UN General Assembly plenary, while at 12 p.m. he will address the Security Council on promoting peace and respect for the UN Charter.
He will then attend a lunch with a delegation of the Hellenic American Leadership Council, and in the aft
ernoon he will meet with the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.
Later in the afternoon, the President and his spouse will attend a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden and his spouse Jill Biden at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
On 26 September, President Christodoulides will meet with the High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi in the morning and then with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset. Afterwards, the President of the Republic will meet with a delegation of the American Jewish Committee, while at noon on the same day he will attend a lunch with businessmen, members of the American Express Club.
In the afternoon, he will have a meeting with a Chevron delegation, to be followed by a meeting with the Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang.
On 27 September in the morning, President Christodoulides will have a meeting with the President of the Republic of The Gambia, Adama Barrow. He will then host a lunch with the Permanent Representatives of the five permanen
t members of the UN Security Council.
In the evening, President Christodoulides will attend and address the annual dinner hosted in his honour by the Federation of Cypriot American Organizations.
It is added that President Christodoulides will be accompanied in the US by Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis, Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, the Greek Cypriot negotiator Menelaos Menelaou, the Director of the President’s Diplomatic Office Doros Venezis and other officials.
The President of the Republic and the delegation will return to Cyprus on the evening of 29 September, the press release concluded.
