Nicosia: President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, has welcomed the “brilliant success” of the Cypriot delegation at the 20th Games of the Small States of Europe in Andorra, which gave Cyprus first place in the medal table.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the President emphasized that the government’s support for sports is an investment in the future of Cyprus and in the new generation. In a written statement, he expressed pride in the Cypriot delegation’s achievement, noting that Cyprus secured the top spot in the medal table with a total of 36 gold, 30 silver, and 42 bronze medals, marking the first time this has occurred since 2011.
The President praised the athletes for their sacrifices, persistence, and dedication, stating that they have honored their homeland by raising the flag high and exemplifying the aspirations and successes of the new generation. He extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the athletes, coaches, the Cyprus Sports Organisation, its Federations, and the Cyprus Olympic Committee, which played a significant role in organizing the mission.
He further elaborated on the government’s policies focused on upgrading and creating new sports infrastructure throughout Cyprus, supporting athletes and coaches with modern programs, and enhancing the international presence of Cypriot sports. The President concluded by reiterating that the government’s support for sports represents an investment in the future of Cyprus and its new generation, which continues to uplift the nation’s spirit and prestige.
