President argues for stopping traffickers and for bilateral return agreements with African states

The exploitation of African migrants and asylum seekers by networks of traffickers, as well as the role of Turkey, were some issues raised by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades during a round table discussion on migration as part of the European Union – African Union Summit, according to a written statement by Deputy Government Spokesperson Niovi Parisinou.

Referring to the discussion on migration, which took place on Friday during one of multiple round table included in the Summit on Thursday and Friday, Parisinou explained that the President argued in favour of the prospect of further EU support for Africa in order to address the unprecedented increased migration flows through the creation of employment opportunities for Africa`s youth, but also argued in favour of strengthening and protection of its external borders.
