Cyprus Braces for Another Day of Extreme Heat, Orange Alert Issued

Nicosia: Cyprus is faced with scorching temperatures again on Monday, and the Meteorology Department has renewed its orange alert. It comes into effect from 11:00 a.m. local time until 5:00 p.m. The maximum temperature is expected to rise to around 43 degrees Celsius inland, with temperatures reaching around 36 degrees on the south and east coasts, and approximately 34 degrees on the west and north coasts, as well as in the higher mountains.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the risk of forest fires remains on red alert. The Forestry Department reminds the public that causing a fire is, according to the legislation, an offence that carries severe penalties. Citizens are called to be particularly vigilant during their outings and to avoid activities that may cause a fire. They are urged to immediately call 1407 or 112 if they notice smoke or fire.
