Nicosia: The Labour Inspection Department has ordered a suspension of outdoor work and deliveries between 12:00 – 16:00 on Tuesday due to the heat wave and the orange warning issued by the Meteorology Department. An announcement specifies that all outdoor heavy and moderate work, as well as tasks involving the transport of products and deliveries using two-wheeled vehicles or personal mobility devices, are prohibited during this period.
According to Cyprus News Agency, work is suspended in areas with an altitude below 300 meters, which are more than 10 kilometers from the coastline, as well as in the highest mountainous areas with an altitude above 1150 meters. The directive aims to protect workers from the risks associated with extreme heat conditions.
For light work in areas where the orange risk alert does not apply, the Department of Labour Inspection advises that both employers and self-employed persons should measure the temperature and relative humidity. Depending on the conditions, they must adjust their work processes to provide breaks and reduce heat stress. They are encouraged to continue working in cool, air-conditioned environments or under shade, rotate tasks among employees, and ensure access to cool water, appropriate clothing, shades, and hats.
