Nicosia: The Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) has announced that the Department of Meteorology has issued an orange-level warning for hazardous weather conditions, necessitating immediate actions regarding occupational safety.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Department of Labour Inspection (DLI) has released a notice mandating the suspension of specific outdoor activities today. This suspension, effective from 12:00 to 16:00, covers all outdoor heavy and moderate work, as well as the transportation and delivery operations involving two-wheeled vehicles or personal mobility devices. The directive applies to inland areas below 300 meters in altitude and more than 10 kilometers from the coastline, as well as to mountainous regions above 1,150 meters.
The DLI emphasizes the importance of adhering to the Code of Practice for the Thermal Stress of Workers, especially in cases where the orange-level warning is not in effect. This includes implementing necessary measures for light work in areas not covered by the warning. The 2023 amendment to the Safety and Health at Work order reinforces the need for these measures regardless of other organizational or technical interventions.
