Everything we do is within the framework of legality and international regulations, Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou said invited on Thursday to comment on so called “pushback” regarding boats off the coast of Cyprus. He added that the boats “sailed safely to Lebanon”.
In his statements on the sidelines of a meeting in Limassol, Ioannou said that “at this stage, the Government does not wish to comment on issues concerning the surveillance of the maritime borders and issues related to the protection of the interests of the Republic of Cyprus”.
Asked whether boats have returned to Lebanon and whether the so-called “pushback” has been applied, the Minister said that “all I can tell you is that everything we do is within the framework of legality and international regulations”.
He added that the boats sailed safely to Lebanon.
