Nicosia fully satisfied with results of 3+1 scheme Foreign Ministers’ teleconference

Nicosia has expressed its full satisfaction over the results of the 3+1 scheme (Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the US) Foreign Ministers’ teleconference that took place on Monday.

The Foreign Ministry’s spokesperson, Demetris Demetriou, told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that the Ministry is “fully satisfied with the positive results of the ministerial meeting of the 3+1 scheme since the political dynamic of the scheme with tangible political deliverables has been established.” Moreover, he noted that the discussion of the four Ministers was rich both in substance and content.

He noted that “these multilateral schemes do not exclude anyone, they are open for participation to everyone interested, without exclusions, on the basis of the principle of inclusion, as long as participants fully respect the international law and its specific aspects, and are ready to cooperate with all the states that participate in these schemes.”

Demetriou also said that, in his intervention, during the teleconference, Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, referring to the issue of Energy and the need to find alternative resources contributing to the goal of energy diversification, that will be economically viable, noted the Russian infrastructure projects taking place at Akkuyu, Turkey and highlighted the complications that these activities may have for the security in the region.

Moreover, Demetriou noted that as regards the Energy issue, the four Ministers discussed all the economically viable and environmentally acceptable energy alternatives, that could contribute to the objective of energy diversification, and expressed full support to the EuroAsia Interconnector.
