Cyprus Parliamentarian Kostis Efstathiou is travelling to Baku, Azerbaijan on Sunday for a working visit in his capacity as the Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) on execution of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).
A press release by the Parliament says that Efstathiou will collect information for the preparation of a report, which will include an assessment of Azerbaijan’s compliance with ECHR decisions, which mainly concern politically motivated cases and the abuse of power, in violation of Article 18 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
Cyprus MP will hold meetings with the members of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court of the country, the Attorney General, the Commissioner of Administration, representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the President of the Parliamentary Human Rights Committee. He will also have meetings with representatives of non-governmental organizations and lawyers.
