MotoGP: Aprilia pull off one-two at Catalan Grand Prix

Italian team Aprilia pulled off a one-two at the Catalan MotoGP Grand Prix in Barcelona on Sunday, with their Spanish rider Aleix Espargaro winning the race and compatriot and team mate Maverick Vinales coming second.

Another Spaniard, Jorge Martin on a Prima Pramac Racing team Ducati, came in third to complete the podium.

Italy’s world champion and standings leader Francesco Bagnaia was involved in a nasty crash at the start of the race.

The Ducati factory rider, who started in pole position, slipped after the second bend and his leg was hit by the KTM of Brad Binder.

The race was halted and an ambulance arrived to take Bagnaia to the circuit’s medical centre.

As a result second-placed Vinales was able to take his tally in the riders’ standings up to 210 points and cut Bagnaia’s lead to 50.
