Nicosia: Cypriot athlete Iosif Kesidis won the gold medal in the men's hammer throw at the 20th Mediterranean Games 'Taranto 26', completing an impressive season in the best possible way. According to Cyprus News Agency, Kesidis produced his winning throw in his third attempt, reaching 77.99 metres.
The Cypriot athlete finished ahead of the Greek athlete Christos Frantzeskakis, who took silver with 77.59m, while the Croatian Matija Greguric claimed the bronze medal. Kesidis' throws were: X, 75.93m, 77.99m, 74.88m, 75.47m and 75.28m.
The gold medal was the fourth for the Cyprus Olympic Committee delegation at the Mediterranean Games and the first for Cyprus in athletics at Taranto 26.
