Cyprus’ Interior Minister Nicos Nouris takes part at a two-day work of the 3rd International Ministerial Conference on Combating the Financing of Terrorism, in New Delhi, with the participation of more than 70 countries and world institutions.
An Interior Ministry press release says that during Friday’s intervention the Minister informed participants about the measures taken by the Republic of Cyprus to strengthen and implement the framework for control and combating the financing of terrorist acts.
He also referred to the measures and mechanisms adopted and which have been repeatedly evaluated positively by the MONEYVAL Committee of the Council of Europe.
Additionally he made special reference to the illegal trafficking and trade of cultural goods, as a source of funding for terrorism, describing it as a serious blow to the efforts to protect the world’s cultural heritage.
Nouris also underlined the importance of implementing instruments, such as the Nicosia Convention on Offenses Concerning Cultural Property, which was adopted during the Cypriot presidency of the Council of Europe in 2017 and plays a key role in preventing the destruction and illegal trade of cultural property , worldwide.
