Inter hammer AC Milan 5-1 in derby

Inter Milan thrashed AC Milan 5-1 in Saturday’s rain-hit derby in the Italian Serie A division.

Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored a double, including an early opener, for Inter at Giuseppe Meazza Stadium.

French forward Marcus Thuram doubled the gap for Inter before halftime as he hit a spectacular long-range shot past Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

Rafael Leao of AC Milan scored in the area to narrow the gap to one, giving a hope to his team.

However, Mkhitaryan, Turkish midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu from the penalty spot, and Italian midfielder Davide Frattesi scored for Inter in the rest of the time to give the Nerazzurri a comfortable victory.

Inter topped the Serie A standings with 12 points in four games. Archrivals Milan have nine points to be in the third position.

Juventus are now in the second place with 10 points as the Turin club bagged a 3-1 victory over Lazio earlier Saturday.

Dusan Vlahovic, Juventus’ Serbian forward, scored twice to help his team take a home win.
