India FM arrives to Cyprus on Thursday for working visit

Foreign Minister of India, Dr. Sybrahmanyam Jaishankar, arrives to Cyprus on Thursday, December 29, for a working visit during which an MoU on defence and military cooperation as well for Cyprus’ accession to the International Solar Alliance will be signed. Moreover a Statement of Intent for launching negotiations aiming at achieving an Agreement on migration and movement will be signed.

According to a press release issued by the Foreign Ministry, during the visit, the Indian FM will have a private meeting with Foreign Minister, Ioannis Kasoulides, to be followed by expanded deliberations during a working lunch attended by officials of the two Foreign Ministries.

Talks will focus, among others, on the bilateral relations between Cyprus and India and the prospects of further deepening them in a broad spectrum of sectors, the EU-India relations, the prospects for India’s participation to a regional mechanism with countries of the region, Turkey’s provocative actions against Cyprus, as well as current regional and international issues of mutual interest.

After the working lunch the two Ministers will sign an MoU on defence and military cooperation and for Cyprus’ accession to the International Solar Alliance. Moreover, Minister of the Interior, Nicos Nouris, will sign a Statement of Intent with the Indian FM for launching negotiations aiming at achieving an Agreement on migration and movement.

The Foreign Ministers of Cyprus and India will make statements to the media at 1500 local time.

On December 30 the two Foreign Ministers will address a Cyprus – India business forum that will take place in Limassol, in the presence of representatives of the business associations of Cyprus and India.

During his visit to Cyprus the Foreign Minister of India will be received by House President, Acting President of the Republic, Annita Demetriou.
