Impressive results recorded in 2022 in Limassol port, says DP World Limassol

A 46% increase in cruises, a 338% increase in passengers and a 63% increase in cargo handled in 2022, compared to 2021, was recorded by the operator of the multipurpose terminal at Limassol Port, DP World Limassol.

According to a company press release, 2022 was one of the best years since it took over management of the terminal as “impressive results” were recorded.

“DP World Limassol came even closer to its goal of making Limassol Port a leading cruise port in the Eastern Mediterranean, having welcomed approximately 200,000 passengers and 165 cruise ships in 2022, recording an increase of 338% and 46% respectively, compared to the previous year,” it is added.

Furthermore, the statement continues, as part of its commitment to make Limassol Port a major commercial hub, DP World has increased the cargo handled at the terminal by 63% compared to 2021, reaching one million tonnes.

Notably, vehicle transports via Roll-on Rol-Off (Ro-Ro) Multi-Purpose vessels amounted to 67,529, recording an increase of 162%, while the terminal handled the loading and unloading of 22,244 vehicles in 2022, an increase of 35% compared to 2021.

In his statement, DP World Limassol’s CEO, Nawaf Abdulla, said that “amidst a period of uncertainty, our company achieved impressive results, bringing the Port of Limassol even closer to its goal of becoming the port of choice for the region.”

He also expressed optimism for 2023, as more than 200 cruise ships are expected to arrive, and assured that the company remains focused on implementing its long-term investment strategy “to ensure the continued growth of the terminal’s commercial activities”.
