Geneva: International Labour Organization (ILO) know-how and guidance is always at Cyprus’ disposal to contribute in efforts to modernize institutions dealing with the employment and the labour market of the country, ILO Director General Gilbert Houngbo assured Cyprus Employers and Industrialists Federation (OEB) DG Michael Antoniou during a tªte- -tªte meeting they had, in Geneva, on the sidelines of the International Labour Conference.
According to Cyprus News Agency, during the meeting which took place in a particularly warm atmosphere, Antoniou described the efforts to reform Cyprus’ pension system, modernize the Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), and find a scientific formula to set the National Minimum Wage, and outlined OEB’s positions on the matters. The OEB press release highlighted that the ILO DG “assured OEB DG that the know-how and guidance of the international organisation will always be at Cyprus’ disposal to be utilised in all efforts to modernise institutions which have to do with our country’s employment and labour market.”
Earlier on Monday, Antoniou addressed the ILO conference, referring to the challenges and opportunities of AI and technological advancement. He noted that they have the capacity to usher humanity into a new era of prosperity, provided that social partners will accept the need for change and adaptation.
