House President stresses need for immediate resumption of Cyprus talks

Cyprus House President, Annita Demetriou, said on Monday that the Greek Cypriot side wants the immediate resumption of the negotiations aiming to the settlement of the Cyprus problem on the basis of the agreed framework, the UN Security Council relevant resolutions and the European principles and values.

Demetriou, who received the Ambassador of Lebanon to Cyprus, Claude El Hajal thanked the latter for the position of principles and the support of Lebanon as regards the Cyprus problem, particularly in light of the new Turkish provocations in the fenced off city of Famagusta.

“We, as the EU and the international community in general, will not accept positions which are outside the agreed UN framework for a Cyprus settlement, as the partitionist positions promoted by Turkey for a `two state` solution,” Demetriou noted.
