House President Meets with EP President in Nicosia for Strategic Talks

Nicosia: House President, Annita Demetriou, will hold a private meeting with European Parliament President Roberta Metsola on Tuesday morning, in Nicosia. This will be followed by an extended meeting involving high-ranking officials from the European Parliament and the House of Representatives.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the meeting is part of the Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament, hosted by the Republic of Cyprus in preparation for its EU Presidency beginning on January 1st. Metsola and Demetriou will also engage in a joint session with Chairs and representatives of the political groups in the European Parliament, along with leaders and representatives from Cyprus parliamentary parties. The session will focus on ‘Defending the fundamental values of the EU in Europe and in the world’.

A press release from the Parliament emphasized the significance of the discussions, highlighting the critical international period marked by increased geopolitical tensions, challenges to global security, and questions surrounding the fundamental values underpinning the European structure. This discussion is particularly relevant as Cyprus approaches its term at the helm of the Council of the EU.

Additionally, Metsola is scheduled to participate with President Christodoulides in a dialogue with students at the Larnaca Technical Vocational Education and Training School. This dialogue is part of the ‘Christmas in Europe 2025’ event, co-organised with the European Parliament Office in Cyprus. The European Parliament delegation is set to depart Cyprus at midday.
