Nicosia: President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, hosted a dinner on Monday evening in honor of European Parliament (EP) Head Roberta Metsola and the Chairs of the political parties in the Parliament, following a Conference at the Presidential Palace. The gathering took place at Kastelliotisa, near the divide in Nicosia, with the President emphasizing the need for European reunification in Cyprus.
According to Cyprus News Agency, President Christodoulides highlighted the significance of overcoming the occupation and division that have long plagued Cyprus. He described the Cypriot people’s resilience and their desire for a future without a ceasefire line or occupation troops, envisioning a reunified Cyprus within the European family, enjoying equal rights with other Europeans.
The President further remarked on Cyprus’ preparations to assume the EU Presidency, emphasizing the country’s commitment to delivering results for the European Union. He stressed the importance of working collaboratively with the European Parliament, acknowledging it as a strategic partner in shaping Europe’s democratic framework.
During the dinner, President Metsola commended Cyprus’ efforts and expressed optimism about the upcoming presidency. She noted the dedication of Cypriots and the alignment of Cyprus’ presidential themes with the EP’s priorities in building a more engaged, secure, and autonomous Europe. Metsola reaffirmed the EP’s support as a co-legislator and partner in this endeavor.
