House President and Defence Minister discuss Defence, Middle East crisis and migration


Defence issues, the Middle East crisis and the increasing migration flows in Cyprus were the main topics discussed on Thursday during a meeting House of Representatives President Annita Demetriou with Defence Minister Vassilis Palmas.

Welcoming Palmas, Demetriou wished him success and expressed on behalf of the competent Parliamentary Defence Committee, readiness to assist him, a press release by the House of Representatives says.

It adds that during the meeting she was informed on issues relating to the responsibilities of the Ministry of Defence.

Demetriou and Palmas also discussed the latest developments on the Middle East crisis and the issue of the increasing immigration flows in Cyprus and exchanged views on the security measures taken by the government.

In the context of the meeting, the Defence Minister outlined his Ministry’s priorities and expressed satisfaction with the excellent cooperation and coordination of actions between the Ministry of Defence and the Parliament, within the framework of
their respective responsibilities.
