The new Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA) will fill in the missing parts in preparedness that became apparent during the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, and will become the dedicated European mechanism towards the prevention, detection and rapid handling of health crises, Commissioner Stella Kyriakides told the Cyprus News Agency in her first written interview on the new authority.
Commissioner for Health and Food Safety Kyriakides, whose portfolio now includes HERA, responded to CNA’s questions on the philosophy and the functioning of the new authority, as well on how HERA will be funded and how potential overlaps with other authorities will be avoided.
According the Commissioner, the Cypriot pharmaceutical industry and research can both contribute and benefit from HERA, since part of the authority’s mission is to strength.
