Nicosia: A Greek Cypriot couple illegally detained by the puppet regime in Cyprus' occupied areas since last July, returned home on Tuesday evening.
According to Cyprus News Agency, a press release issued by the Keravnos Strovolos basketball team, with whom some of the detainees have long-standing associations, confirmed that Andreas and Annie Kyprianou have finally returned home. This follows the return of three other Greek Cypriots who were similarly illegally detained.
The Keravnos Strovolos basketball team expressed relief that this ordeal has concluded and extended gratitude to those who contributed to ending what they described as unjust, illegal, and completely unjustified actions. Additionally, they acknowledged a group of Turkish Cypriots who showed particular sensitivity and support for the Greek Cypriots, despite the stance of the occupation regime.
The Greek Cypriots were 'arrested' on July 19 in the Turkish-occupied village of Trikomo, located in the northern part of Cyprus, while visiting their properties. They faced charges of 'illegal entry' among other accusations. The division of Cyprus dates back to 1974 when Turkish troops invaded and occupied 37% of the island's territory.
