Seven Cypriot Track and Field Athletes Secure Olympic Scholarships for Los Angeles 2028

Nicosia: The International Olympic Committee (IOC), upon a recommendation by the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC), has approved the inclusion of seven Cypriot track and field athletes in the 'Olympic Scholarships for Athletes - Los Angeles 2028' program. The athletes who have been selected for this prestigious opportunity are Elena Kulichenko, Olivia Fotopoulou, Filippa Fotopoulou, Valentina Savva, Styliana Ioannidou, Iosif Kesidis, and Petros Michaelides.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Cyprus Olympic Committee (COC) stated in a press release that the 'Olympic Scholarships for Athletes' program is an initiative funded by the Olympic Solidarity of the International Olympic Committee. This program is designed to provide essential support to athletes to ensure they receive optimal preparation for securing qualification and participation in the upcoming Olympic Games.

The announcement also revealed that a total of $320,000 in financial support scholarships will be distributed among 24 Cypriot athletes. This initiative is part of a broader support scheme that includes scholarships granted through the COC's partnership with the A.G. Leventis Foundation, sponsorships from the COC's partners, and other Olympic Solidarity programs.
