Friendship with the UAE is precious for Cyprus, says Foreign Minister

The friendship between Cyprus and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is precious, Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides said on Friday, adding that after contacting his counterpart in the UAE they are seeking a date for him to pay a visit to the country.

Kasoulides visited the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in Nicosia, on Friday, to sign the book of condolences on the death of the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al Nahyan.

In his remarks to journalists after signing the book of condolences, he said that “the United Arab Emirates and the friendship that exists between our two countries are precious to us.” He added that on Thursday he had a telephone conversation with Sheikh Abdullah, the UAE Foreign Minister, and noted that “we have agreed to find dates to visit the Emirates.”

On Thursday, the book of condolences was also signed by Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades, who in turn assured that he remains committed to strengthening the long-standing ties between the Republic of Cyprus and the UAE.
