FMD Outbreak Affects Over 2,700 Sheep and Goats in Larnaca District

Larnaca: A total of 2,765 sheep and goats are located in four farms in Athienou and Dromolaxia, within Larnaca district, now affected by foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), following lab results released on Friday.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the veterinary services announced on Saturday that these farms fall within the designated affected zones, raising the total number of affected farms to 116. Of the newly impacted sites, two are in Dromolaxia and two in Athienou. Notably, one Dromolaxia farm, containing only seven animals, lacked official registration. The remaining three farms collectively house 2,758 sheep and goats.

The Veterinary Services further detailed that vaccination efforts are anticipated to conclude by May 20. Nationwide, 92% of cattle and 77% of sheep and goats have already been vaccinated. Vaccination efforts have also reached 48.5% of pigs within the containment zones.
