Cyprus Sea Area Forecast Predicts Weak Low Pressure and Slight Sea Conditions

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area surrounding Cyprus, covering a period from 1200 on May 16, 2026, to 1200 on May 17, 2026. The forecast details the atmospheric and marine conditions expected within an 8-kilometer radius seawards, highlighting a weak low-pressure system currently affecting the area. According to Cyprus News Agency, the atmospheric pressure at the time of the forecast issuance was recorded at 1009 hPa. The area is experiencing locally increased cloud coverage at times, although visibility remains good, with the sea surface temperature steady at 21°C. No warnings have been issued for this period. The forecast provides a detailed account of wind and sea conditions for various coastal regions. On the west coast, winds in the afternoon are expected to range from west to northwest at a Beaufort scale of 4 to 5, with slight sea conditions locally reaching slight to moderate. By night, winds will shift to southwest to northwest at 3 to 4, later tra nsitioning near the coast from northwest to east at 2 to 3, maintaining slight sea conditions. The morning will see variable winds at 3 to 4, gradually turning southeast to south at 4, with the sea remaining slight. For the south coast, the afternoon will bring southwest to west winds at 4 to 5, locally reaching 5, with slight sea conditions. During the night, winds will continue at 4 to 5, gradually shifting near the coast from southwest to northwest at 3 to 4, with slight conditions turning smooth to slight near the coast. Morning winds will be south to southwest at 3 to 4, locally south at 4, with slight sea conditions. The east coast forecast indicates afternoon winds from south to southwest at 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5, with smooth to slight sea conditions. At night, winds will be southwest to west at 3 to 4, with similar sea conditions. In the morning, southeast to southwest winds at 3 to 4 will soon shift to south to southwest at 4, maintaining smooth to slight conditions. On the north coast, afternoon winds will be southwest to northwest at 3 to 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5, with slight sea conditions. At night, winds will remain southwest to northwest at 3 to 4, gradually shifting near the coast from south to southwest, with conditions starting slight and turning smooth to slight near the coast. Morning conditions will feature south to southwest winds at 4, locally variable 3 to 4 near the coast, with slight conditions turning smooth to slight locally.
