Fitch Ratings Upgrade Sparks Optimism for Cypriot Economy

Nicosia:Positive ratings and European rankings should have tangible benefits for citizens, stated President Nikos Christodoulides following Fitch Ratings' upgrade of Cyprus from 'A-' to 'A', maintaining stable prospects.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the President emphasized that the goal of these ratings is to translate into real benefits for citizens' daily lives through consistent and responsible reforms. He highlighted that the upgrade is a strong confirmation of the resilience of the Cypriot economy, fiscal responsibility, and the country's stable trajectory.

The President further noted that this positive development follows a similar upgrade by S&P Global Ratings. He stressed the importance of a stronger economy in providing better-paying jobs, increased investments, and new opportunities, which in turn support targeted social policies and investments in key sectors like Health, Education, and Housing.

Additionally, President Christodoulides mentioned the recent data from the Statistical Service, recording growth rates of 6.0% in 2023, 6.6% in 2024, and 4.8% in 2025. These figures position Cyprus among the top two countries in the European Union for growth over the last three years. He underscored that, combined with historically low unemployment levels and a significant reduction in public debt, these factors contribute to a stronger, more resilient, and competitive Cypriot economy.
