Fire in Limassol district destroys two summer residences, while others have been evacuated

Fire department forces were deployed on Tuesday to put out a fire that broke out just after 1400 local time at Agios Amvrosios, in Limassol district. Two summer residences have been destroyed by the flames, according to the head of Agios Amvrosios community, Stelios Gregoriou.

Gregoriou told CNA that the fire is burning at least on three fronts and some houses in the region have been evacuated, with the help of the Police and the Civil Defence, while two summer residences have been destroyed.

Police said in a press release that the road from Agios Amvrosios to Pachna and Omodos villages is now closed to traffic due to the fire.

According to the Fire Service spokesman, Andreas Kettis, fire engines from all districts have rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Moreover “Ikaros 2” plan has been put into effect with the use of seven aircraft – airplanes of the Forestry Department and helicopters of the Police Aviation Unit, the British Bases and the National Guard.

They are supported by water tankers and dozers of the Limassol District Administration.
