Nicosia: A case against a 37-year-old father, charged with causing the death of his 3-year-old son through reckless, careless, or dangerous conduct, was filed at the Paphos District Court. The court has scheduled the trial for July 31, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. and has released the father on a bail of 20 thousand euros under strict conditions.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the court imposed several conditions on the father, including being placed on the stop list, surrendering all travel documents, appearing weekly at the Paphos Central Police Station, refraining from crossing into Turkish-occupied areas of Cyprus, and providing the police with his full residential address. After complying with these conditions, he was released pending the next court hearing. The Attorney General had earlier instructed the criminal prosecution of the father after a thorough evaluation of evidence from the police investigation.
Reports indicate that a trace of alcohol was found in the defendant's blood, a factor that is expected to play a significant role in the trial proceedings. The incident took place around 6:00 p.m. last Sunday, when the child fell from the fourth floor of a hotel in the Paphos district, where he was staying with his parents.
The police, along with findings from an autopsy at the Nicosia General Hospital Morgue, confirmed the cause of death as severe traumatic brain injury, along with multiple injuries to the body and vital organs, resulting from the fall.
