Nicosia: A significant event focusing on European security challenges and the specific case of Cyprus was held at the UNESCO Amphitheatre, University of Nicosia. The discussion, organized by the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs, brought together experts and academics to discuss pressing geopolitical issues affecting Europe.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the event commenced with a welcoming address by Professor Achilles C. Emilianides, the Dean of the School of Law at the University of Nicosia. The program was divided into two panels, each chaired by distinguished members of the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs.
The first panel was chaired by Mary Varda, a Research Fellow at the center. Peter Walkenhorst, a Senior Project Manager at the Bertelsmann Foundation, opened the discussion with insights on Euro-Atlantic relations. Following him, Andreas Mavroyiannis, the former negotiator of the Greek Cypriot community, shared his perspectives on the relations between Europe and Russia. A discussion session concluded the first panel.
The second panel was chaired by Simos Angelides, a lawyer and member of the board at the Cyprus Center for European and International Affairs. Professor Emeritus Andreas Theophanous, who is also the President of the center, addressed issues surrounding international law, realpolitik, and Cyprus. Anthony T. Silberfeld, Director of Transatlantic Relations at the Bertelsmann Foundation, discussed the evolution of U.S. foreign policy in the context of domestic politics. This was followed by a discussion session.
The event concluded with a reception at the Block Restaurant, providing attendees an opportunity for informal discussions and networking.
