European Police Chiefs Discuss Global Security Threats

The Hague:Customs Departments Heads and Police Chiefs from EU member states and other countries convened at the Europol headquarters between 28 and 30 September for the annual European Police Chiefs Convention to address major global security threats and strategies for joint action.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the head of the Cyprus delegation was Mari Charalambous Kliriotis, Director of the Customs Department. The convention's discussions concentrated on issues such as artificial intelligence, legal access to data, falsification, the prevention of radicalization, and enhanced cooperation between Customs Departments and the Police.

A special meeting focusing on Customs Departments addressed the use of unmanned aerial systems, the challenges and opportunities presented by AI, and the enforcement of EU sanctions.

The event saw participation from over 500 Heads of Police and Customs Departments representing 59 countries and 15 international organizations, including INTERPOL and the World Customs Organization.

The Cyprus Customs Department emphasized its commitment to international cooperation and knowledge exchange, aiming to bolster its operational capabilities against various threats. It highlighted the importance of strengthening partnerships with the Police and the necessity of coordinated efforts.
