Accra:President Nikos Christodoulides has joined forces with 16 other European Union leaders by co-signing a joint letter to the Irish Presidency. This initiative comes ahead of the upcoming negotiations on the Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) for the years 2028-2034.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the joint letter emphasizes the necessity for Europe to secure sufficient resources to address emerging priorities while ensuring funding for the Cohesion Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy.
For Cyprus, these policies are crucial for achieving balanced development, supporting rural areas, and enhancing the competitiveness of the primary sector. The letter also highlights the importance of maintaining the overall size of the MFF as agreed in the Negotiating Box under the Cyprus Presidency, which is considered a strong foundation for the forthcoming negotiations.
This move underscores the significant role of the Cyprus Presidency in shaping the next EU budget. The ultimate goal is to establish an ambitious, balanced, and adequately funded EU budget capable of addressing both existing and new challenges faced by Europe.
