Dublin:Cyprus' Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides, recently attended the informal meeting of Health Ministers of the European Union, held from September 30 to October 1, 2026, under the Irish Presidency of the EU Council. According to Cyprus News Agency, the discussions at the meeting centered on enhancing innovation in life sciences, tackling challenges related to chronic diseases and an aging population, and improving access to medicines. The meeting put particular emphasis on the swift application of innovation for patient benefits within the European Health Data Space. It also focused on prevention and early diagnosis as part of the EU Safe Hearts Plan and on strengthening the resilience of medicine supply chains. During his address, Charalambides highlighted the importance of providing timely and equitable access to quality health services and innovative treatments. He stressed the necessity for European cooperation mechanisms that consider the unique needs of smaller member states and aim to reduce inequalities.
