European Commission Seeks Public Input on Electrification and Decarbonisation Plans

Brussels: The European Commission has initiated a public feedback process on two crucial initiatives aimed at advancing the Clean Industrial Deal and the Affordable Energy Action Plan. The focus is on the Electrification Action Plan and the Heating and Cooling Strategy. These initiatives are integral to the EU’s strategy to enhance competitiveness, affordability, security, and sustainability for European citizens and businesses.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Electrification Action Plan aims to expedite the cost-effective electrification of the EU’s energy consumption while addressing potential challenges. Concurrently, the Heating and Cooling Strategy will assist in implementing current legislation and suggest improvements in energy infrastructure planning, district heating, and waste heat recovery. Both initiatives are expected to be adopted early next year.

Dan J¸rgensen, Commissioner for Energy and Housing, emphasized the significance of transitioning to a net-zero economy powered by clean, secure, and home-grown electricity. The plans are designed to support industries, buildings, and mobility sectors in transitioning from fossil fuels to decarbonised energy. Public consultations are open on the Have Your Say Portal until 20 November 2025, allowing stakeholders to contribute their insights and evidence.

In a related development, Commissioner Glenn Micallef will formalize Moldova’s association with the Creative Europe programme in Chisinau, Moldova. This agreement, effective from 1 January 2026, will provide Moldovan artists and cultural organizations access to the programme’s Culture Strand. The inclusion is a significant step in Moldova’s journey towards EU membership, enhancing opportunities for cultural and creative industries in the country.

Moldova’s participation in Creative Europe underscores the EU’s commitment to supporting Moldova’s cultural sector. The programme offers funding opportunities and broader networks for Moldovan talent across the EU, with the potential for Moldovan cities to compete for the European Capital of Culture title for non-EU countries.

Commissioner Micallef highlighted that the agreement places Moldovan culture at the forefront of its EU membership aspirations, emphasizing the strength in diversity and shared European heritage. The signing ceremony, along with a press conference by Commissioner Micallef and Moldovan Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan, will be broadcast live on EBS.

During his visit, Commissioner Micallef will also engage with young Moldovans, discussing youth participation and EU programmes, and meet with representatives from the country’s cultural industries and artists.
