Nicosia:According to Cyprus News Agency, the European Commission and Ukraine have collaboratively identified methods to meet Ukraine's budget and defense needs for 2026. They have also confirmed the necessary steps to ensure these needs are met on time.
For 2027, the European Commission has agreed to proceed swiftly with the allocation of £45 billion under the Ukraine Support Loan, pending certain conditions. Efforts will also commence to identify additional budgetary and defense needs for Ukraine.
The agreement includes a commitment from other partners to fulfill their financial commitments and increase their efforts in response to Ukraine's significant challenges. Additionally, it was agreed that the parties would meet monthly to coordinate these joint efforts.
Separately, the European Commission has disbursed over £9.8 billion to Poland, Sweden, Belgium, Estonia, and Cyprus through the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), a key component of NextGenerationEU. This disbursement rewards the successful completion of milestones and targets linked to the national recovery and resilience plans of these countries.
Poland received £7.9 billion after meeting milestones that include investments in digital technologies in education and urban public transport. Sweden was paid £1.47 billion for advancements in the green transition and education reforms. Belgium received £225 million for improvements in public transport and housing efficiency. Estonia was granted £135 million for projects including hospital construction and digital gateway development. Cyprus was allocated nearly £120 million for initiatives such as school evaluation systems and renewable energy expansion.
