Nicosia: The 9th of May, celebrated annually as Europe Day, marks a significant occasion for member states of the European Union, including Cyprus, to reinforce European identity and cooperation. The European Parliament Offices across EU countries are set to open their doors to the public, promoting democracy, human rights, and European solidarity.
According to Cyprus News Agency, on the 8th of May, the European Parliament Office and the European Commission Representation in Cyprus will host a reception at the EU House in Nicosia. This event will gather members of the Diplomatic Corps, government officials, and partner organizations. Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, and other distinguished guests will deliver opening remarks. The event will also feature a musical piece by the GC School of Careers, a participant in the European Parliament Ambassador School Programme.
On the morning of the 9th of May, the Municipality of Nicosia will raise the European Union flag at the old City Hall courtyard. The ceremony will include speeches from the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, the Mayor of Nicosia, Charalambos Prountzos, and other European officials.
Later that day, in Larnaca, the European Parliament Office and the European Commission Representation in Cyprus, along with the Municipality of Larnaca and the European Information Centre, will host a public event. The event will feature information booths highlighting EU projects and performances by the Larnaca Municipality Children’s Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir. The evening will conclude with a video message from the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and a concert inspired by Mediterranean and European music.
