Protaras: Tourism Ministers of the European Union member states, along with their delegations, toured the picturesque Protaras seafront and the renowned Fig Tree Bay beach, where they received briefings on the area's rich history, new landmarks, and visitor-enhancing projects.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Municipality of Paralimni-Derynia issued an announcement on Saturday detailing that the EU Tourism Ministers were welcomed by Mayor George Nikolettos. Present at the event were Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis, Deputy Mayors of Paralimni and Frenaros, members of the Municipal Council, and the President of PASYXE Famagusta alongside local hoteliers.
In his address, Mayor George Nikolettos emphasized that "Protaras is one of the most idyllic destinations in Europe," highlighting that the Municipality of Paralimni-Dherynia boasts the highest number of Blue Flags in Cyprus, with a total of 18. He noted the significance of Fig Tree Bay beach, which the Ministers visited, as it is the only Cypriot beach featured among the 19 best beaches in Europe, according to TripAdvisor.
The announcement also informed that the Ministers were briefed on the upcoming European Open Water Swimming Games scheduled to occur in Protaras from April 18 to 19, 2026, with participation from 25 countries. The Ministers' visit to Cyprus was part of their participation in the Informal Meeting of the European Union, organized within the framework of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026.
