EU Leadership to Reaffirm Multilateralism at 80th UN General Assembly

New york: A high-level delegation from the European Union is set to participate in the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York from September 21 to 26. This session arrives amid significant geopolitical challenges and global crises, providing a pivotal moment for the EU and its Member States to reaffirm their commitment to multilateralism, with the UN at its core.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the EU’s agenda during the week will focus on deepening partnerships across regions, mobilizing collective action for peace and security, advancing sustainable development, and upholding human rights. President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, alongside High Representative/Vice-President Kaja Kallas and President of the European Council Ant³nio Costa, will host or attend events with global leaders. They will be joined by other key EU officials including Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera and several Commissioners.

The EU delegation will engage in high-level meetings and side events, representing the Union in various flagship events. President von der Leyen is scheduled to address several key gatherings, including the high-level commemorative meeting of the UN General Assembly, the Global Renewables Summit, and an international conference on the two-state solution. Her agenda also includes discussions on the protection of children in the digital age and climate action, emphasizing the EU’s commitment to these global issues.
