Nicosia: The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, is visiting Cyprus for critical meetings ahead of the island nation’s upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU, which is slated to commence on January 1, 2026. Kallas, who also leads the European External Action Service, is set to engage in a series of high-level discussions during her visit.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Kallas is scheduled to arrive at the Presidential Palace at 1600 local time, where she will be received by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides. Following this, at 17:15, she is expected at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to sign the visitors’ book. A private meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Constantinos Kombos, will follow, leading into broader bilateral consultations. Kombos and Kallas are anticipated to address the media afterward.
Anita Hipper, the European Commission spokesperson for foreign affairs, informed CNA that this visit by the High Representative is not only in preparation for Cyprus’s upcoming Presidency but also part of ongoing efforts to address key international concerns. These include the situation in Gaza, the conflict in Ukraine, and the EU’s support for Kyiv.
