Dynamic Ecosystem and Digital Transformation: Main Goals for Cyprus Shipping Deputy Ministry, Says Hadjimanolis

Nicosia: Having a dynamic ecosystem, a sustainable, competitive environment for Cypriot shipping, and concluding digital transformation are the main goals, Shipping Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanolis said at a press event. During the event, she unveiled the Deputy Ministry’s main priorities and future campaigns.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Deputy Minister emphasized that efforts to strengthen Cypriot shipping, increase the competitiveness of the Cyprus registry, and promote sustainable shipping, maritime safety, and international cooperation remain central to their policy. She noted that actions taken over the last two years have yielded positive results.

The Deputy Minister highlighted that the shipping sector significantly contributes to the economy, accounting for around 7% of the GDP, while its contribution to the social and political development of Cyprus is equally vital. She mentioned that continuous upgrading of shipping services, high-quality service, ship safety, specialized human resources, efficient administration, and strategic bilateral agreements with other countries have positioned Cypriot shipping as a key pillar of economic development.

Planned actions in the coming period include the international shipping conference “2025 Maritime Cyprus” scheduled for October 6-8 in Limassol, Cyprus’s efforts to be re-elected to the Council of the International Maritime Organization for 2026-2027, and initiatives to further promote the Cyprus flag and Cyprus as an international maritime state. In the coming months, promotional campaigns will be conducted in important maritime centers such as Athens, London, the US, Singapore, and Shanghai.

The Deputy Minister also announced that the Deputy Ministry is advancing towards completing digital transformation and the green transition. The aim is to immediately and effectively serve the maritime community and citizens, with the first services expected to be available soon. Additionally, the Ministry is implementing policies to attract services similar to shipping, particularly those related to digital technologies, research and development, and services for leisure boats.
