Nicosia: The preservation of regional security and the predominance of diplomacy to avoid escalating tensions are the key objectives, Government Spokesman, Konstantinos Letymbiotis, told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA), invited to comment on the situation in the Middle East following the US strike against Iran. He noted that the National Security Council (NSC) remains continuously in session under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Letymbiotis also highlighted that Cyprus remains committed to fulfilling its role as a reliable source of stability and humanitarian assistance. In his statement to CNA, Letymbiotis said that “the Republic of Cyprus closely monitors the developments and continuously assesses all the data.”
He added that “we are in constant contact with our partners as part of the responsible and coordinated management of the developments” and that “the National Security Council remains in a continuous session under the leadership of the President of the Republic.”
Regarding Cyprus’s role, Letymbiotis stated that “as a member state of the European Union and simultaneously as a regional country with excellent relations with all neighbouring states, Cyprus continues to play its part, primarily as a reliable pillar of stability and humanitarian support.”
With consistency and operational readiness, he added, “our country responds to every request related to the protection of human lives and the facilitation of humanitarian missions, reaffirming the enduring role of the Republic of Cyprus as a bridge of peace and security in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
Concluding, he noted that “the preservation of regional security and the predominance of diplomacy to prevent escalation of tensions are the main priorities.”
