Chi?inau: Deputy Minister for European Affairs, Marilena Raouna, wrapped up her two-day working visit to Chi?inau on Tuesday as part of preparations for Cyprus’s EU Presidency in the first half of 2026.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Raouna is currently in Budapest for a private meeting with Hungarian counterpart J¡nos B³ka, followed by an expanded meeting between their delegations. She will also meet Zoltan Tessely, Chairman of the European Affairs Committee in the Hungarian Parliament.
During Raouna’s visit to Chi?inau, she engaged in discussions with Moldovan President Maia Sandu, focusing on Moldova’s EU accession process and the upcoming parliamentary elections. Both parties emphasized the strong bilateral ties and expressed political will to strengthen these connections further. Raouna affirmed her support for Moldova’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and European aspirations, and thanked President Sandu for Moldova’s principled stance on the Cyprus issue.
Raouna also met with Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, applauding the advancements in reforms within Moldova. The Deputy Minister reiterated her commitment to enhancing cooperation to achieve tangible outcomes during Cyprus’s EU Presidency. Additional discussions were held with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Carolina Perebinos and Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Janiseiks.
In Chi?inau, Raouna conversed with civil society representatives about their expectations and concerns regarding Moldova’s EU accession. Her visit included tours of EU-funded projects in the Stra?eni region, showcasing the impact of European support on local communities.
