Deputy Minister Highlights Synergies Between Cyprus and Greece

Nicosia:Fortune Greece and Cyprus Roundtable Deputy Minister to the President Irene Piki emphasized the significant potential for collaboration and synergies between Cyprus and Greece during her address at the event.

According to Cyprus News Agency, Piki noted that the digital and green transitions, along with artificial intelligence, supply security, and Europe's competitiveness, are central to European policies, presenting opportunities for cooperation between the two nations.

Over the past three years, significant progress has been made, as Piki pointed out, with the Intergovernmental Summit of Cyprus and Greece establishing a permanent framework for collaboration. This framework enables the two countries to move beyond general declarations to implement specific policies that enhance citizens' daily lives.

New synergies are being developed in research, innovation, and technology. Cyprus' involvement in the European AI Factories ecosystem, investments in high-performance computing infrastructure, and cooperation with Greek and European entities are opening new avenues for researchers, universities, start-ups, and investors.

The future phase of cooperation will focus on forming an interconnected economic and technological space, joint investments in technology, research, innovation, and linking universities, research centers, and businesses. This will create opportunities that leverage the comparative advantages of both countries.

Piki remarked that Greece is a vital economic partner for Cyprus, which is increasingly acting as a business and investment gateway to the Eastern Mediterranean, the Middle East, and the broader region. Greek and Cypriot businesses are collaborating across technology, energy, shipping, services, and tourism sectors, forming a dense network of economic relations.

She concluded by highlighting the upcoming 4th Cyprus-Greece Intergovernmental Summit in Nicosia, which will offer a chance to further this cooperation. The summit will focus on practical applications of artificial intelligence, innovation, and coordination on European issues, following the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU this year and looking ahead to the Greek Presidency in 2027.
