The importance of full coordination of Greece and Cyprus’ efforts for the resumption of talks within the UN framework for the solution of the Cyprus problem in light of the prospect of normalisation of Greco-Turkish relations was stressed on Monday by President of the House of Representatives, Annita Demetriou, during her meeting with the Greek Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in the context of his official visit to Cyprus. “We stand by the Cypriot people for final vindication,” the Greek Prime Minister wrote in the House of Representatives’ visitors book. According to a press release by the House of Representatives, welcoming the Greek Prime Minister, the President of the House of Representatives first expressed the full support of the Cypriot people in the ordeal experienced by the Greek people during the recent wildfires and her sincere condolences to the families of the victims. It is further noted that Demetriou stressed the importance of full coordination of the efforts of Greece and Cyprus, with the aim of resuming talks within the UN framework for the solution of the Cyprus problem and in light of the prospect of normalisation of Greco-Turkish relations. Mitsotakis expressed Greece’s full support and backing to the efforts to resolve the Cyprus problem, on the basis of the agreed framework and with the European Union playing a complementary role, supporting the efforts of the UN Secretary General. Demetriou also underlined the essential role of the Greek and Cypriot Parliaments, within the framework of parliamentary diplomacy, in supporting and further promoting the objectives of the two states, making special reference to the trilateral cooperation that Greece and Cyprus have developed with countries of the wider region. According to the press release, Demetriou also briefed the Greek Prime Minister on legislation pending before Parliament on important issues as well as about all other initiatives in the framework of parliamentary diplomacy. After the meeting, the Greek Prime Minister signed the visitors book of the Parliament in which he wrote: “It is an honour for me as Prime Minister of Greece to visit the temple of the Republic of Cyprus. We stand by the Cypriot people for their final vindication.”
