It is imperative in this extremely critical period, with Turkey`s illegal actions against Cyprus escalating, to remain on constant alert and readiness, the Minister of Defence Charalambos Petrides said on Friday, adding that the operational capability of the National Guard must be upgraded as it is the primary force of deterrence and preservation of our national existence.
In an address during the ceremony to hand out the green berets to the new army recruits of 2021, the Minister said we are going through an extremely difficult time with Turkey’s illegal actions against Cyprus escalating and also turning against the national interests of many Mediterranean countries.
