Eurobank Champions India-Cyprus-Europe Connectivity at Business Summit

Nicosia: Eurobank continued to shape a strategic financial bridge between India, Cyprus, and Europe, playing a leading role at the Cyprus-India Business and Investment Summit 2026, held on 28 January in Mumbai.

According to Cyprus News Agency, the Summit came at a pivotal moment, as India's business community increasingly looked westward for global expansion, while Cyprus positioned itself not simply as an investment destination, but as a trusted European gateway supporting India's international ambitions.

Eurobank's participation underscored its role as a financial catalyst at the heart of India-Greece-Cyprus connectivity. Mr. Panayiotis Chrysostomou, Manager, Banking Services and Representative Offices, outlined how the Eurobank Group had, over the past two years, emerged as one of the most active European financial institutions engaging with India. This engagement is supported by strong capital fundamentals, expertise across banking, investment and insurance services, and a deeply rooted European footprint. Mr. Chrysostomou participated in the panel 'The Financial Services Sector of Cyprus' where he highlighted the key advantages offered to Indian businesses and investors choosing to use Cyprus as their base for further European expansion, such as stability and regulatory certainty, strategic location and connectivity along the IMEC corridor and most importantly the international DNA of Cyprus' banking sector.

Eurobank has already established a dedicated India Desk, facilitating the onboarding of Indian companies and MNCs expanding into Cyprus, while spearheading the Group's next milestone: the opening of a Representative Office in Mumbai's financial district in the coming months. This will make Eurobank the first Greek and Cypriot banking group to establish a physical presence in India, serving as a strategic hub for relationship-building, information-sharing and connectivity with business ecosystems in India, Cyprus, Greece, and the wider European market.

One of the most important initiatives undertaken as part of Eurobank's India strategy is the India-Greece-Cyprus (IGC) Business and Investment Council, launched by Eurobank in partnership with the Indian Chamber of Commerce and leading institutional stakeholders from all three countries. The Council operates as a coordinated trilateral platform designed to deepen trade, investment, and economic cooperation across high-potential sectors such as infrastructure, technology, energy, shipping, financial services, tourism, and innovation, supported by dedicated liaison points in India, Greece, and Cyprus.

Eurobank's bridge-building role extends across key industries. In technology, the Group has partnered with Fairfax Digital Services and LTIMindtree to establish a Global Delivery Center in Pune supporting Eurobank's European operations, while also backing advanced AI initiatives headquartered in Cyprus. In financial innovation, Eurobank has signed a landmark MoU with NPCI International to deploy India's Unified Payments Interface (UPI) in Greece and Cyprus, enabling real-time, low-cost cross-border payments. In tourism, Eurobank and the IGC Council facilitated the entry of Thomas Cook India into Cyprus, strengthening people-to-people and business travel links.

As India's global footprint expands and Cyprus continues to attract Indian investment, Eurobank stands uniquely positioned to translate strategic vision into operational reality, connecting a rising India with Europe and shaping the next chapter of bilateral and regional economic cooperation.
