Nicosia: In the midst of ongoing parliamentary discussions about updating its legislative framework, Cyta has outlined its intentions to enter the energy sector, emphasizing the need for equal treatment in a competitive market. The telecommunications provider is advocating for legislative updates that would provide it with opportunities comparable to those available to existing energy providers.
According to Cyprus News Agency, Cyta is focused on benefiting citizens, particularly those who currently lack access to private energy solutions. This includes tenants, residents of apartment buildings, and small businesses that cannot install photovoltaic systems. A parliamentary decision in favor of Cyta's proposal could grant these citizens access to more affordable and sustainable energy options.
Cyta also aims to bolster the development of renewable energy in Cyprus by collaborating with renewable energy producers and investing in its own generation and storage capacities. This involvement is expected to stimulate new investments and improve access to clean, affordable energy, thereby advancing the country's energy transition under transparent and equitable participation rules.
The company assures that its operations will comply with the existing regulatory framework, with prices and terms being set by the Regulatory Authority. Cyta insists on equal participation under the same regulations applicable to all providers, reinforcing the regulated nature of the market.
Cyta's move reflects a broader European trend toward the convergence of energy and technology markets, forming integrated service ecosystems that offer enhanced services and benefits to citizens. By adapting strategically, Cyprus has the potential to capitalize on this dynamic shift.
With a history of contributing to Cyprus's economic evolution and a strong performance record, Cyta is confident that its entry into the energy sector will offer increased choices, improved transparency, and tangible benefits for citizens, further strengthening public trust.
