Cyprus Weather Alert: Low Pressure Brings Showers and Thunderstorms to Sea Area

Nicosia: The Cyprus Department of Meteorology has issued a forecast for the sea area of Cyprus, indicating that low pressure is temporarily affecting the region. Local showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected in the morning and early afternoon, with variable winds reaching strong gusts during storms. Visibility may be reduced from good to moderate or poor in showers. According to Cyprus News Agency, the forecast covers an area extending 8 kilometers seawards and is valid from 0600 on January 24, 2026, until 0600 on January 25, 2026. The atmospheric pressure at the time of issue was recorded at 1013 hPa. Despite the low-pressure conditions, no specific warnings have been issued. For the West Coast, morning winds are expected to be Southeast at 4 on the Beaufort scale, shifting to South to Southwest at times. The sea state will be slight to moderate. In the afternoon, winds will change to East to Southeast, occasionally reaching 4 to 5, with similar sea conditions persisting into the night as winds tur n Northeast to East. On the South Coast, morning winds will be Northeast at 4, occasionally reaching 4 to 5, with the sea state being slight to moderate. In the afternoon, winds will remain Northeast at 4 to 5, sometimes reaching 5, with conditions occasionally turning moderate. By night, winds will shift to North to Northeast at 3 to 4, with slight to moderate sea conditions. The East Coast will experience morning winds from the Northeast at 4 to 5, locally reaching 5, with a moderate sea state. These conditions will persist into the afternoon and night, with winds shifting slightly to North to Northeast. For the North Coast, morning winds will be Northeast to East at 4 to 5, occasionally reaching 5 to 6, with moderate sea conditions. These conditions will continue in the afternoon, with a slight decrease in wind strength by night to 3 to 4, with the sea remaining slight to moderate. Sea surface temperatures across all coasts are expected to be around 18°C during this period.
