Nicosia: The trade deficit in the first six months of the year recorded an annual increase according to the Statistical Service of Cyprus. In a press release Monday, it said that the trade deficit was pound 4,679.1 mn in January-June 2026 compared to pound 4,055.1 mn in the corresponding period of 2025.
According to Cyprus News Agency, the Statistical Service published the foreign trade statistics' final data for May and provisional data for June. In June 2026, total imports of goods were pound 1,289.3 mn, marking an increase of 11.9% compared to June 2025. Imports from other EU Member States were pound 730.7 mn, while imports from third countries were pound 558.6 mn. Notably, imports included the transfer of economic ownership of vessels, valued at pound 117.8 mn.
Total exports of goods in June 2026 were pound 463.0 mn, a decrease of 9.9% compared to June 2025. Exports to other EU Member States were pound 212.0 mn, and to third countries, they were pound 251.0 mn. Exports also included the transfer of economic ownership of vessels and aircraft, valued at pound 77.3 mn.
For the period January-June 2026, total imports of goods amounted to pound 7,296.8 mn, an increase of 8.8% from the same period in 2025. Total exports of goods were pound 2,617.7 mn, a slight decrease of 1.2% compared to the previous year.
In May 2026, total imports of goods amounted to pound 1,309.4 mn, a 22.4% increase compared to May 2025. Exports of domestically produced products, including provisions for ships and aircraft, reached pound 348.1 mn, a 63.9% increase from May 2025. Among the main categories of exports of domestically produced goods for January-May 2026 were mineral fuels and oils, halloumi cheese, and pharmaceutical products.
